Leading technology and entertainment service provider Flow is encouraging Jamaicans to make regular blood donation part of their lifestyle.

The company recently hosted a successful employee blood drive in partnership with the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) at its corporate head office in St Andrew to mark World Blood Donor Day.

Additionally, Flow employees were encouraged to visit any of the NBTS’ collection centres across the island.

Dozens of Flow staff supported the activity, which falls under the organisation’s Health and Wellness programme. During the exercise, 37 staff members signed up as voluntary blood donors. The company also hosted a sensitisation session for its staff, highlighting the benefits of blood donation.

Stephen Price, vice president and general manager of Flow Jamaica, expressed his gratitude to all who participated.

“We are incredibly proud of our team and the community for coming together to support this vital cause. Regular blood donation is crucial for saving lives, and Flow is committed to being a good corporate citizen by promoting health and wellness initiatives that benefit our nation,” he said.

Igol Allen, blood donor organiser at the NBTS, highlighted the significance of the event and the impact of regular blood donation. “Currently, just under one per cent of the population donates blood regularly,” Allen noted. “If this number increases to just three per cent, we would have adequate reserves to meet the nation’s needs. Flow’s support and active participation in this blood drive are invaluable in helping us move towards this goal.”

This year’s theme for World Blood Donor Day is “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!”
