Today (July 30), Jamaicans and reggae lovers internationally are celebrating the birthday of the reggae and rock steady legend, Jimmy Cliff.

James Chambers, more popularly known as Jimmy Cliff on the musical scene, is celebrating his 80th birthday today.

He was born in the community of Somerton, St James, in 1944. Cliff emerged on the music scene at the age of 14, when he relocated to Kingston with his father.

Cliff also helped to popularize reggae worldwide through his roles in the Jamaican crime film, ‘The Harder The Come‘ and the American comedy ‘Club Paradise‘.
