Opposition Spokesperson on Labour and Sports, Wavell Hinds, MP, is congratulating Jamaica’s football ambassador, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, following a remarkable 2025/26 season that has further cemented her status as one of the finest footballers in the world.
Shaw capped off a historic campaign by helping Manchester City secure the Women’s Super League title, while collecting some of the highest individual honours in women’s football. Among her achievements this season were being named the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year for the second time in her career, winning the Women’s Football Awards Player of the Year, securing Manchester City’s Etihad Player of the Season award, and claiming a record third consecutive Women’s Super League Golden Boot.
Hinds said Shaw’s accomplishments continue to demonstrate the extraordinary talent, discipline, and determination that Jamaican athletes bring to the global stage. “Khadija Shaw has once again made Jamaica proud. Her achievements this season are not only a personal triumph but a source of inspiration for young people across our country. To consistently perform at the highest level of world football and to be recognised by journalists, supporters, teammates, and the wider football community speaks volumes about her character and her excellence.”
He noted that Shaw’s success extends far beyond goals and trophies. “Bunny Shaw has become a symbol of what is possible through hard work, resilience, and belief. She continues to break barriers, elevate the profile of women’s football, and represent Jamaica with distinction wherever she goes. Every young girl who dreams of playing sport can look at her journey and see what can be achieved.”
Hinds also welcomed reports that Shaw has committed her future to Manchester City through a new long-term contract, a reflection of both her value to the club and her standing within the global game.
“As a nation, we celebrate her achievements and thank her for the pride she brings to Jamaica. She continues to be an outstanding ambassador for our country and a shining example of Jamaican excellence.”
Hinds said the Opposition remains committed to advocating for greater investment in sport and the development of systems that allow more Jamaican athletes, particularly young women, to pursue opportunities at the highest levels. “Khadija Shaw’s success reminds us of the immense talent that exists within our people. Our responsibility is to create the conditions that allow that talent to flourish.”
