Hyundai Jamaica, through its local distributor Magna Motors Dealership Limited, has continued its support for national recovery and resilience efforts following Hurricane Melissa, with participation in a major humanitarian health initiative aimed at strengthening emergency healthcare capacity in western Jamaica.
On Saturday, February 7, a press conference was held with Dr. Christopher Tufton,, Minister of Health and Wellness, alongside senior representatives of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, humanitarian NGO partners Judah One and Kennedy International Logistics and Services, and other dignitaries to announce the deployment of a hardened medical dome at Cornwall Regional Hospital. The initiative forms part of a broader effort to bolster emergency and surge healthcare services across the western region.

Partnering with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, humanitarian organisations, and other private-sector stakeholders, Magna Motors supported the initiative to strengthen emergency healthcare capacity across western Jamaica.
The 10,000-square-foot medical dome will provide additional surge capacity and supporting infrastructure to ensure continuity of care during periods of increased demand, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Clayton Clarke, Head of Corporate and Pre-Owned Sales at Hyundai Jamaica, underscored the importance of coordinated action in the post-hurricane recovery period. “In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, the need for coordinated and decisive action to strengthen healthcare response in western Jamaica became clear,” Clarke said. “That is why we partnered with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and humanitarian organisations to support the deployment of this dome hospital designed to enhance emergency and increase healthcare capacity.”
Clarke added that the initiative reflects Hyundai’s broader commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and national recovery, saying, “This effort supports recovery within the county of Cornwall and the wider western areas of the island, where timely access to resilient healthcare infrastructure remains essential.”

The medical dome initiative forms part of Hyundai Jamaica’s broader efforts to support national recovery and resilience following Hurricane Melissa. Through continued collaboration with public agencies and humanitarian partners, the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen essential services and improve preparedness in communities across Jamaica.
