
Dr Karlene McDonnough, co-founder and company chairman of Image Plus Consultants Limited (IPCL), which trades under the name Apex Medical, is retiring from the company after 30 years of exemplary leadership.
Her retirement from the medical imaging company takes effect on February 28, 2026. Dr McDonnough, who additionally served as managing director for the initial 14 years, will, however, remain with the company as an executive director and will continue as the lead Consultant Radiologist for its Nuclear Medicine modality.
Dr Steven Lewis, who has served as deputy chairman since November 1, 2024, will assume the role of Chairman starting March 1, 2026. He has been a Consultant Radiologist at IPCL since 2003 and became a director of the company in 2010. In 1996, Dr McDonnough established IPCL, together with three other partners, driven by a vision to deliver affordable advanced diagnostic services to Jamaica.
Under Dr McDonnough’s guidance, IPCL has evolved into a publicly listed company on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with revenues surpassing $1 billion in its last financial year.
Dr McDonnough has been a Consultant Radiologist for over 30 years, having received her Doctor of Medicine in Radiology (DM Rad) from the UWI Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and further training in Nuclear Medicine from the Montreal General Hospital.

Her medical training, coupled with her sharp business insight, has strengthened her dedication to enhancing healthcare solutions in Jamaica, which has resulted in the company becoming a market leader in diagnostic imaging in Jamaica.
