Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Senator Kamina Johnson Smith on Saturday, January 24, 2026, welcomed His Excellency Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, to Jamaica for a three-day official visit.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kamina Johnson Smith, on Saturday, welcomed Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, to Jamaica for a three-day official visit aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation and deepening ties between the two countries.

The two ministers met in Brussels last May and discussed opportunities for the strengthening of cooperation in health and education.

Minister Johnson Smith is welcoming the visit as an opportunity to personally thank Minister Ablakwa for his country’s generous support of the Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts, by way of the deployment of over 49 Ghanaian engineers and five personnel, including two physicians, two nurses and one pharmacist, who have been in Jamaica since December.

The visit forms part of Jamaica’s broader engagement with African partners and is expected to support deeper collaboration with Ghana across economic, technical and people-centred areas of cooperation.

Bilateral discussions will focus on strengthening collaboration across shared priorities, including in the areas of health and education. Minister Johnson Smith will be joined by her colleague ministers in these engagements.
