The Government of Jamaica has signed an agreement on Development Cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, advancing bilateral relations and technical and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson-Smith and Ambassador of China to Jamaica, His Excellency Wang Jinfeng.
The Agreement, valued at approximately $2.3 billion ($100 million RMB yaun) supports the continued development of joint initiatives, building on more than 50 years of diplomatic relations since 1972, and sets the framework for the implementation of mutually agreed projects in the years ahead.
At the signing, Minister Johnson Smith acknowledged China’s longstanding support, including its assistance following Hurricane Melissa, noting Jamaica’s interest in deepening cooperation across priority areas.
