Jamaica’s World Under-20 100m champion, Alana Reid has apparently switched coaches and clubs moving from the Dennis Mitchell Star Athletics Track club to Hurdles Mechanic under the guidance of Lawrence Johnson.

Reid who will be 20 on January 20, could not be reached for comment but Our Today has learnt that she has moved to Arkansas, USA, the home of Hurdles Mechanic.

Reid had previously trained with Dennis Mitchell who in the 2024 Netflix series Sprint, said he was here to “bring down the Jamaicans”.

“Over the last few years, I’ve watched Jamaicans go 1-2-3. To have the Jamaicans be so dominant in the events that I coach is disheartening,” he pointed out.

That raised eyebrows as to why Reid was at that Florida-based camp that included American stars Sha’Carri Richardson and Twanisha Terry.

In 2018, Ristanana Tracey joined the Hurdles Mechanic while Reid would rub shoulders with fellow Jamaicans Ackera Nugent and Andrenette Knight

The former Hydel star who is the record holder at Champs with 10.92 which is also National Junior record, has signed a multi-year contract with Nike in 2023.

In October 2024, she signed an endorsement deal with Burger King becoming the latest brand ambassador for the fast-food chain.
