On the heels of what has been rumoured to be a brewing romance, former Miss World Toni-Ann Singh is the hot topic once again, this time for being the subject of Burna Boy’s and her supposed beau, Popcaan’s new track, T.A.S.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Popcaan would be among the star-studded names featured on Burna Boy’s sixth studio album, Love, Damini. Dropping the tracklist this past Tuesday (July 5), Popcaan’s name appeared on the 11th song,T.A.S – which the world now knows to mean, Toni-Ann Singh.
Many have taken Popcaan’s lyrics as confirmation of their long rumoured romance, while others have praised the piece as the best on the afrobeats superstar’s body of work.
The song appears to denote the Unruly boss’ romantic feelings for the longest reigning Miss World, who in recent times has been spending quality time with the Buzz hitmaker, sparking dating rumours.
Popcaan, who performs the song’s chorus, compares his love interest’s beauty to that of Singh. Professing his love, the dancehall elite, in his true fashion, sings of performing sexual acts and describes her as his “angel without the two wings”.
Released on the evening of July 7, the almost three-minute track has catapulted the 26-year-old beauty pageant winner to the #1 trending subject on Jamaican Twitter.
“There’s a song on this album feat Popcaan called TONI-ANN SINGH That’s the name of former Miss World and Popcaans girlfriend —Mans sang about his girl,” @MARLON_M26 tweeted.
“I truly thought Popcaan & Toni-Ann Singh were just a publicity stunt,” @estyinthecity wrote, while @ek_yeboah said, “Burnaboy and Popcaan made a classic Toni-Ann Singh is a great tune #LOVEDAMINI.”
T.A.S, produced by Jamaican producers Anju Blaxx and Amilcar Smith, has so far reached more 117,000 views on YouTube.
It’s been a busy week for Popcaan, who on Tuesday was detained in the United Kingdom. This morning his attorneys announced that the artiste has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Government following a Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) statement suggesting he was in the past arrested in Barbados for drug possession, and that that was the reason he was on the UK’s radar.
