Kingston College (KC) and Immaculate Conception High emerged winners of the Corporate Area Athletics Championship in convincing fashion at the Ashenhiem Stadium last Saturday (February 21).

KC became the first school to break the 500 points barrier twice, amassing the highest tally ever in 519 points. In 2022, they amassed 507 points. Jamaica College, the favourites in many people’s books, were 44 points behind in second spot with 475. Last year, KC won by 48.5 points.

Calabar could not match the big two and was some distance back in third place on  283 points. They were 192 points behind JC and 236 points below KC. That’s a lot of points to make up at the Boys’ and Girls Athletics Championship set for the end of March.

Wolmer’s Boys were fourth with 157.5 points and were followed by Excelsior High (140), St George’s College (85.5), Campion College (64), Papine High (21), Ardenne (14), and Camperdown (four) completed the top 10.

KC were dominant throughout, especially in the jumps, remarkably winning all the long and high jumps in all classes, losing only the triple jump in class one to the outstanding Michael-Andre Matthew Edwards of JC, who leapt 15.56m for gold.

On the girls’ side, Immaculate Conception High scored 408 points and was 120 points clear of the dethroned champions Excelsior Girls, who finished second on 288 points. Last year, Excelsior defeated Immaculate by 15 points but had no answer for the girls from Constant Spring.

Convent Mercy Alpha were third with 286.33 as Wolmer’s Girls grabbed fourth spot on 220.5 ahead of The Queens School with 138.33. Merl Grove (144),  St Andrew High (100.33), Campion College (62.5), Holy Childhood (41) and Papine High (35) completed the top 10.
