U.S. authorities concerned 

A massive $1.5 billion cocaine find was uncovered at the Kingston Freeport Terminal, which led to the shutting down of the vital port.

The cocaine has been seized while the Jamaica Constabulary Force conducts investigations

It appears that containers are being used to ship in the cocaine and that security measures at the Kingston Freeport Terminal are not stringent and fail to meet international requirements.

This year, Jamaica has been flooded with cocaine, which has played a significant part in financing real estate development in the country. It is estimated that as much as 7,000 kilograms of cocaine have come into Jamaica for the first six months of 2026.

This is a cause for concern for U.S. authorities, including the FBI, ICE and the DEA.

A U.S. Department of State operative said: “We have noted the increase in cocaine inflows into Jamaica and it is disturbing. Local authorities there seem unable to get on top of these criminals. President Trump has said he will not tolerate the Caribbean as a hub for cocaine and narcotics in the region. You saw what happened in Venezuela with Nicolas Maduro. I’m sure the Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be having a word with your Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson -Smith.

“Jamaica cannot be allowed to be a high transhipment country for drugs. We are already aware of politicians with unexplained wealth and had to crack down in the past on an MP in St Thomas. Jamaican ports are being allowed to be used by drug syndicates. We had warned Jamaica about drug smuggling in 2010 by Tivoli gangster Christopher Coke, and the government then didn’t pay attention; we were ignored. Jamaica is now accounting for around 15 per cent of cocaine heading to the U.S.
