Four-time Olympic champion Michael Johnson is set to refund US$500,000 amid ongoing legal claims following the collapse of the Grand Slam Track league.

The competition, which held events in Kingston, Miami, and Philadelphia, folded in December 2025, leaving contracted athletes without promised prize money and salaries.

A legal filing in Delaware alleges Johnson secretly paid himself the sum just days before GST’s collapse, though the organisation called the claim unfounded and false. Johnson’s team clarified that the money was a reimbursement, not a personal payout, but he and his company, Winners Alliance, have agreed to return the funds to ensure creditors receive a fairer share during the league’s reorganisation.

Earlier in 2025, Johnson invested US$2.25 million into GST after a planned US$40 million backing from Eldridge Industries fell through. His spokesperson added that the reimbursement reflects a portion of the over US$2 million Johnson had already advanced for the benefit of the athletes.
