Sasha Benjamin, director of the Mini Miss St James Heritage Queen pageant, is calling on private sector partners and the general public to urgently assist a young contestant and her family from Cambridge, St. James, who were left homeless after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The child, who is currently registered to compete in the upcoming all-island finals in December, is among several families severely impacted by the storm. She and her family are now without a home and in immediate need of food, clothing, basic supplies, and temporary housing support.

In response, pageant CEO Damion Duckett and fellow parish directors of the Mini Miss Jamaica Heritage Queen pageant have begun mobilising relief efforts, including a free charity concert to be held in Ocho Rios on November 29, with additional fundraising initiatives planned over the coming weeks.

However, due to the urgent humanitarian need, Benjamin is appealing for immediate assistance from compassionate individuals, organisations and community stakeholders.

Requested support includes non-perishable food items, clothing and shoes (child and adult), toiletries and hygiene supplies, school materials, bedding and basic household items, and temporary accommodation or sponsorship.

“We are dedicated not only to celebrating culture, confidence, and youth talent, but also to safeguarding the well-being of every child in our programme,” said Benjamin. “This young queen has worked hard, shown grace, and displayed remarkable spirit. With community support, we are confident she can rise from this setback and continue her journey.”

Those willing to support can contact Benjamin at 876-402-7299 for delivery information or to arrange contributions.

The organisation extends gratitude in advance for all acts of kindness, solidarity, and compassion.

The Mini Miss Jamaica Heritage Queen pageant is a national cultural empowerment programme designed to build confidence, leadership, public speaking, and civic pride in young Jamaican girls through mentorship, community involvement, and cultural education. The event will crown a national queen on December 28 in St Ann.
