A new facility at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) will provide support and treatment for patients as well as prevention tips as part of Jamaica’s National HIV programme.

The J$9-million site is a donation of three retrofitted 20-foot containers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton received the donations yesterday (October 25) during a handover ceremony at KPH.

“Today’s handover from the CDC will support the work of creating enabling environments for all persons seeking and assessing care. The facility will offer a private space for consultation. This we anticipate will enhance confidence in patient care and service delivery,” said Tufton.

He also noted that the improvement in HIV caree and treatment outcomes are important and will form a critical part in heightening service delivery.

Tufton also noted that Jamaica has received a lot of support from international organisations such as the CDC and that the country is moving steadily on its journey to enhance service delivery.

KPH is the largest local hospital catering to the needs of patients with HIV, having six sites at which they can access services.
