Police officer pleads guilty to manslaughter in fatal shooting

administratorJamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) officer Constable Patrick Walters pleaded guilty on July 15 to a charge of manslaughter when he appeared before the St Mary Circuit Court in relation to the death of D’Jonnay Graham.
Graham was fatally shot on June 25, 2025, in Essex District, Richmond, St Mary.
In its ruling to INDECOM, dated July 17, 2025, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) directed that Constable Walters be charged for the offences of using a firearm to commit a felony, contrary to Section 14(2) of the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act and murder, contrary to common law.
On July 15, Walters pleaded guilty to the charge of using a firearm to commit a felony. In relation to the murder charge, he pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter.
The matter will be transferred to the Home Circuit Court in Kingston for sentencing, which is scheduled for September 25.
Walters was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
