The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) says that it plans to list its charity, the Social Transformation and Renewal project (Project STAR) on the Social Stock Exchange via an initial public offering set to raise J$100 million.
They say that the social shares will be offered at J$1 before the end of the month.
Julian Mair, chairman of the Jamaica Stock Exchange said, “It’s an ambitious project and an ambitious funding target. The mechanism is in itself unique.”
“We want people to take their corporate social responsibility to a higher level. We want them to feel and know that they are investing in a better outcome for Jamaica,” he added
Project STAR is a social initiative helmed by Keith Duncan, former president of the PSOJ, and members from all sectors of Jamaica that will use the Economic Programme Oversight Committee model to transform several communities across the island. It has received support from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, civil society and the and the Government.
