Jamaican reggae singer and producer Immanuel ‘Ras-I’ Kerr has today (February 22) released his sophomore album Kingman.

The eight-track delight is a blend of multi-genres and themes that come together to present a collection of Ras-I’s personal experiences and just the sounds he experiments within in his capacity as producer.

Kingman was a result of Ras-I’s need for a creative outlet during the peak of the pandemic (during which most of the project was written) and he describes it as his best work to date.

“I really wanted to put some more “feel good” music out in the world to help lift the spirits and ease the constant frustration of the pandemic,” he said.

Through Kingman, Ras-I takes listeners on a journey into his varying artistic styles, with tracks like Somewhere Wonderful and Coming Home holding particular significance to him, on a personal level.

Somewhere Wonderful came about when I was just getting frustrated with the pandemic and wanted to leave and couldn’t because of all the restrictions,” Ras-I said. “I couldn’t move physically so I just moved through the music.”

The album is multi-produced by Ras-I himself, Dale Virgo, J.L.L. and his frequent collaborator Koastal Kings. It features the vocal talents of Dre Island, Royal Blu and Christopher Martin.

Kingman is out now across all digital signal processors (DSPs) and currently ranks #9 on the US iTunes charts. It is being released along with compelling visuals for the Dangerous (ft Dre Island) track.

Ras-I, a native of Kingston, like many Jamaican musicians was exposed to music and musical instruments at a tender age.

The multifaceted artiste not only sings, writes, and produces all his songs, but he is also known as a master instrumentalist specialising in the guitar, keyboard, and percussion.

His music can be classified as roots reggae, with notes of ‘old school R&B’ and a little funk, drawing his influence from exemplary reggae veterans like the Abyssinians, Brigadier Jerry, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Uroy, and Peter Tosh.
