Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz will face Grenada on Sunday, January 18, at the Kirani James Stadium in an International Friendly as they continue their preparation for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier against New Caledonia on March 26.
Interim Head Coach Rudolph Speid made the announcement on Wednesday as he named mainly local and North American-based players for the game against the Boyz’ Caribbean neighbours.
The last time both teams played was on October 12, 2023, when Jamaica won 4-1 in the CONCACAF Nations League.
“We look at this as important for domestic-based players to get international exposure,” said Speid. “We are working to have opportunities to pursue other friendlies, which we would like to have one in February, and when these other matches are confirmed, we’ll make an announcement,” he added.
Speid called 24 players to a three-day training camp, which started on Wednesday and will conclude on Friday.
The players are:
- Goalkeepers Kemar Foster (Mount Pleasant), Tafari Chambers (Mount Pleasant), Daniel Russell (Portmore United)
- Defenders Christopher Ainsworth (Cavalier), Javain Brown (Real Salt Lake), Damion Lowe (Houston Dynamo), Ronaldo Webster (Shkendija), Stephen Young (Portmore United), Kyle Ming (Mount Pleasant), Fitzroy Cummings (Mount Pleasant), Robino Gordon (Chapleton Maroons)
- The Midfielders, including a recall for 31-year-old Andre Lewis of Spokane Velocity, are: Adrian Reid Jr (Cavalier), Shamar Watson (Cavalier), Dwayne Atkinson (Rhode Island), Tyreek Magee (Mount Pleasant), Jahshaun Anglin (Mount Pleasant), Jaheim Thomas (Arnett Gardens), Nickyle Ellis (Racing FC)
- The Forwards are Romario Williams (Indy Eleven), Trayvon Reid (Harbour View), Daniel Green (Mount Pleasant), Jourdaine Fletcher (Montego Bay United) and Warner Brown (Mount Pleasant)
“We’ll come into a training camp today, and this will go up to Friday. We’ll also have another camp next week before the departure to Grenada,” Speid noted.
