

Jamaica’s Reggae Girl Kayla McKenna has joined Swiss Club GC Frauenfussball from Spanish Club Madrid CFF.
The 28-year-old McKenna, nee McCoy, also represented Houston Dash, Rangers, and Villarreal before moving to the “Grasshoppers” in Zurich which was announced on social media for days ago by the club.
“The GC women’s football club is pleased to welcome Kayla McKenna as the new offensive force in the AWSL team. McKenna is a versatile right-footer who has already played 23 international matches for Jamaica and has gained valuable international experience in the process.
“She is particularly distinguished by her impressive physique and goal threat. With her assertiveness, McKenna will be an important pillar in the attack of the Grasshopper women’s football,” said the club.
McKenna, in her short stint at Madrid, had 11 appearances while scoring twice. She has two goals for the Senior Reggae Girlz team.
The Grasshoppers are currently sixth in the Swiss League with 24 points courtesy of seven wins from 15 matches inclusive of five defeats and three draws. They trail leaders Basel by 10 points.
Having represented the USA at the Youth level, McKenna made her Jamaican debut in 2019 against Chile and from 23 appearances, she has five goals, the latest which came in Jamaica’s 2-0 win over Peru on February 23, 2025.
The powerful striker is the granddaughter of retired Jamaican politician Pearnel Charles Snr and niece to the current Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Pearnel Charles Jnr.
His sister, Michelle Charles, is the Member of Parliament for St Thomas Eastern since 2020 and her other aunt, Patrice Charles-Freeman, served as the executive director of the Jamaica Anti-doping Commission and was the Jamaica Labour Party candidate for the St Thomas Eastern seat in the 2011 general election.
