Simple larceny and malicious destruction of property charges have been laid against Omar Johnson, a taxi operator, following an incident that occurred in Moneague, St Ann, on Friday, December 5.

Reports from the St Ann’s Bay police are that at about 1:45 am, a team of officers was on mobile patrol in the Moneague policing area when they observed Johnson removing service cable wires from a manhole.

He then placed the wires in a green Toyota Probox motorcar. Upon seeing the police, Johnson, who is of an Old Harbour Road, Spanish Town, address in St Catherine, allegedly sped off.

The officers pursued the vehicle, intercepted it shortly after, and recovered the stolen cable wires.

The vehicle was seized, and Johnson was taken into custody. He was later charged after the complainant gave a statement and identified the recovered wires. He is to appear in the Claremont Parish Court on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
