Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko pulled off a major upset at the Qatar Open, eliminating Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina in the quarter finals.
Trailing 2-4 in the deciding set, the 19-year-old battled back to win four straight games and seal a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 victory, moving her closer to the WTA top 10 for the first time.
Mboko, who began 2025 ranked outside the top 300, has now beaten Rybakina twice in four meetings and ended the number two seed’s nine-match winning streak.
