63 year old Tom Cruise is heading back to the cockpit, with Top Gun 3 now officially confirmed by Paramount Pictures at CinemaCon.

Cruise is set to return as the face of the franchise, though no other cast members have been locked in just yet. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board, while the director’s chair remains undecided as talks continue with Joseph Kosinski.

The sequel follows the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick, which pulled in $1.5 billion worldwide and picked up multiple Oscar nominations. With that kind of momentum, the studio has been eager to keep the story going.

Behind the scenes, the project is also part of a bigger shift, with Paramount expanding its slate and eyeing more large scale releases each year. Alongside Top Gun 3, the studio teased a packed lineup, while Cruise himself is also preparing for his next role in a new film from Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
