Uber has launched a new feature aimed at improving user safety and fostering positive interactions on its platform by allowing lessor partners to report inappropriate or fanciful usernames.

This initiative responds to concerns about ensuring that users register with their real names to maintain a respectful and transparent community.

Manuela Bedoya, Safety Communications Manager for Uber in the Andean Region, the Caribbean, and Central America, said: “Our goal with this feature is to address concerns from lessor partners and ensure users register with their real names. This helps us build a community with more positive and respectful interactions.”

The new tool enables reporting of usernames that contain sexual terms, nicknames, violent language, numbers or special characters, inappropriate emojis, or references to fictional characters.

When a user is reported for having an inappropriate name that does not match their identification document, a specialized team reviews the name to take appropriate action.

The account is placed under review, and if the name is deemed inappropriate or unsuitable, the account is suspended and the user is asked to edit their name.

How to modify or update your account name:

  • Open the dropdown menu in the app’s top right corner (where your photo is).
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Choose the section with your name, phone number, and email address, and click on “Edit Account.”
  • Select the “First Name” section and make the necessary changes.
  • Then, click on the “Last Name” section and make the necessary changes.
