Vanessa Bryant, the wife of the late NBA star Kobe Bryant, has launched a new clothing line, ‘Mambacita’, to commemorate what would have been the 15th birthday of her daughter Gianna Bryant, who died tragically in a helicopter crash alongside her father on January 26, 2020.
The clothing line which was released on Saturday (May 1), is being done in collaboration with the clothing brand Dannijo, with 100 per cent of the proceeds set to go to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.
The line which features tie-dye sweatshirts, sweatpants, and face masks noticeably include a “No. 2” design, an ode to Gianna’s basketball jersey number.
In an Instagram post on Saturday, Vanessa wrote, “Today is my Baby’s Birthday. When I thought about how best to celebrate Gianna’s birthday with so many who loved her, I knew it had to be a combination of sharing her bright and fun personality with her sense of purpose and passion that would help make a difference in this world.”
Bryant continued by describing the personality of her daughter, Gianna, who “was kind, energetic, a leader, and had so much MAMBACITA swag”.
“I am so proud of the limited-edition MAMBACITA x DANNIJO tie-dye sweat set capsule collection, which celebrates Gigi’s spirit in every little detail – even the placement of #PlayGigisWay on the right arm of each hoodie– her shooting arm, 🏀” said Bryant.
Noting what beloved Gigi would love most about the collection, Bryant said, “that 100% of the proceeds will support the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, which is dedicated to creating positive impact for underserved athletes and young women in sports”.
Highlighting that “Gigi was especially motivated to change the way everyone viewed women in sports”, Bryant stated, “it is fitting that this capsule represents her values”.
As of May 3, 2021, at 10:26 am a recent visit to the Dannijo website has indicated that the line is now completely sold out, it is unclear whether the items will be restocked.
