Veteran hotelier assumes leadership of JHTA

Seasoned hotelier Christopher Jarrett has been elected as the new president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA). 

He succeeds Robin Russell, who chose not to seek re-election after serving three terms. 

Jarrett previously served as first vice president under Russell’s leadership.

He was elected unopposed during the organisation’s 64th Annual General Meeting at the Dreams Rose Hall Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday, June 28.

Also elected were 1st vice president O’Brian Herron, second vice president Kerry-Ann Quallo-Casserly, third vice president Vana Taylor, and fourth vice president Nadine Spence.

Jarrett is optimistic about tourism growth, citing the recent US travel advisory downgrade and declining crime rates. He expects increased Caribbean travel due to global instability and aims to make the association more inclusive while advocating on key issues such as taxation.

Jarrett is confident the sector will continue to expand its contribution to Jamaica’s GDP.

Jarrett and his family operate the Altamont Court in Kingston, Altamont West, and the recently opened Hotel 39 in Montego Bay, St James.
