
Jamaica’s 400m world champion Antonio Watson made a winning seasonal debut clocking 46.03 seconds at the Camperdown Classic at the National Stadium last Saturday (February 8), but the improving Zandrion Barnes ran a world-leading time.
Watson was running his first race since June 2024 after pulling up injured at the Jamaican Championship and missed the Olympic Games in Paris.
He turned in a steady and conservative performance running well within himself and eased home ahead of Demish Gaye of Sprintec who closed well for second in 46.03s.
Watson’s Racers teammate Jeremy Bembridge was third in 47.17s just ahead of national champion Malik James-King in fourth with 47.18s.

However, Watson was upstaged by fellow national representative Zandrion Barnes of Sprintec who stopped the clock at 44.97 in winning Heat D ahead of Assinie Wilson of Titans in 46.40. Former National champion Jevaughn Powell now at Racers was third in 46.62.
Meanwhile, 2022 World Championship 100m fourth place finisher Oblique Seville also opened his season clocking a personal best 47.04 over the 400m in winning Heat C. He showed good strength down the stretch and held off a determined challenge from Bryan Levell of Uptimum Track Club, who was second in a personal best of 47.90.
Calabar High’s Shaquane Gordon showed that he is ready for Champs capturing the Class One 100m in a personal best of w10.34 (+1.6). Tramaine Todd of St Elizabeth Technical High School was second in 10.50 with JC’s Nathaniel Martin third with a personal best of10.53.
