Jamaica-based regional mobile company, Digicel has completed the rollout of its eSIM technology in three more CARICOM states.

The three territories are Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines. The latest eSIM roll out follows rollouts in Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Guyana.

The roll out in Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines involved an embedded SIM that is built into the mobile device, eliminating the need for physical SIM cards and meaning services can be activated simply by using a QR code.

The eSIM is the latest technology for mobile devices, removing the need for physical SIM cards. The term ‘eSIM’ refers to an embedded SIM and takes the form of a chip that cannot be removed from a mobile device.

This means that users can switch between mobile networks without needing to replace their SIM card.

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has noted with concern the recent public comments made by the Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell, suggesting that it is a “perfectly legitimate approach” for the Commissioner of Police and senior leadership of the JCF to speak publicly on fatal shootings under investigation in order to reassure communities.

This statement comes from the fatal killing of 22-year-old Jamar Farquharson in Cherry Tree Lane, Clarendon, on September 15, despite footage from his residence showing him surrendering to police officers.
