A five-month-long sting operation in the United States led to the arrest of a young Jamaican national, who is centred in a major narcotics investigation in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Twenty-one-year-old Romario Burrowes, wanted on 28 counts, was arrested without incident outside an apartment complex last Thursday (March 3), according to a report from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

In its report, Volusia Police said an undercover detective made multiple controlled purchases of heroin, fentanyl and meth from Burrowes.

Collectively, a drug haul of 482 grams of heroin, 229.4 grams of fentanyl and 169 grams of meth was bought, confirming the Jamaican as their prime suspect.

During last Thursday’s arrest and execution of a search warrant, detectives seized another 103 grams of fentanyl, 410 grams of meth, 43 Oxycodone pills, four handguns, a little more than US$1,000 cash and narcotics paraphernalia.

Burrowes’ charges include multiple counts of trafficking and delivery of fentanyl, heroin and meth, as well as conspiracy and other crimes.

His bond was initially set at a whopping US$6.8 million, according to the sheriff office’s website.

Footage of the Jamaican’s arrest was also included in the Volusia Sheriff Office’s statement.

WATCH:

The bust was a multi-investigative effort involving operatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Volusia Bureau of Investigation (a Central Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area initiative), and East Volusia Narcotics Task Force.

When contacted on March 10, a representative from the Volusia County’s Official Public Records told Our Today that the Jamaican, born November 25, 2000, has a total set of charges now standing at 33.

Additionally, Our Today was informed that a no bond order is placed on Burrowes’ file, with a court date set for March 22 at the Daytona Beach Justice Center.
