After days of training and promotion, Jamaican Olympic legend Usain Bolt will be looking to put his stamp on the 2022 edition of UNICEF Soccer Aid at the London Stadium, home of West Ham United, today (June 12).
Bolt is captain of Arsene Wenger’s Soccer Aid World XI squad and will lead celebrity teammates including actor Mark Strong as well as legendary players such as Roberto Carlos, Petr Cech, Patrice Evra, Dimitar Berbatov and Cafu.
They will be facing off against and England squad led by singer Liam Payne (of One Direction fame) and including Olympic champion Mo Farah and football legends Joe Cole, Teddy Sherringham and others.
This will be Bolt’s second time participating and second time as captain, following the September 4, 2021 matchup in which his World XI defeated England 3-0.
The retired Olympian will no doubt be looking forward to a similar result today.
Soccer Aid is the world’s biggest celebrity football match and can be viewed live and free by United Kingdom viewers on ITV.
The match kicks of at 7:30 pm BST / 2.30pm ET.
Soccer Aid for UNICEF started back in 2006 as the brainchild of UNICEF UK ambassador Robbie Williams.
It has gone on to raise more than £60 million for charity and has featured numerous legends of the game, including Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Eric Cantona.
