Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos in a deal worth up to £50 million.
The move advanced quickly after United made their interest known, with the club set to pay an initial £48 million plus a further £2 million in achievable add-ons. Chelsea has also secured a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Santos has been given the green light to complete his medical, with United also preparing for Brazilian midfielder Ederson to undergo his medical after his planned £35 million move from Atalanta.
The arrival of Santos comes as United look to strengthen their midfield following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury setback, which is expected to keep him out for an extended period.
United had explored several midfield options this summer, including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, but those moves failed to materialise before the club turned its attention to Santos.
The 20-year-old midfielder is now set to become one of Chelsea’s major departures this summer as United prepare for the new season with their squad still being reshaped.
