Blind Dawg turned back the clock and had patrons eating out of his hands at the Mello Vibes Summer Time party last Saturday at Mas Camp, Stadium East.
Bling Dawg, whose given name is Marlon Williams and also goes by the moniker Ricky Rudie, was the special guest at the popular retro party series celebrating its 25th year.
Bling Dawg, dressed in full black, appeared on stage after midnight and thrilled the large gathering with his large range of hits. He delved into Zip It Up, his breakout anthem song from 2001 made popular by the legendary dancer Bogle.
He also performed the hard-hitting collaboration Phone Call, which he did with Vybes Kartel, as fans sang along. He then drew his popular hit Living in Hell, another collaboration with Elephant Man. But despite the lyrics despising the notion of abortion, the women were loud, singing Elephant Man’s phrases while Bling Dawg sang his.
ZJ Liquid, Bad Gyal Marie and DJ Narity kept the party alive with their selections from the 1980s through to the 2000s and it was non-stop vibes.
With the FIFA Football World Cup on in earnest, patrons were asked to wear their World Cup jerseys, and they did, with Argentina being the most popular.
The World Cup fever hit when selector Bad Gyal Marie drew the popular theme song from the 2010 World Cup, Waving Flag done by K’Naan in 2010.
It was not only dancehall, as patrons were treated to calypso by Bad Gal Marie as the hundreds of jerseys and rags were swirling in the air to the beat.
The soca train was also a hit with scores of dancers forming lines, moving around in circles to the tune “Follow the leader”.
This Mello Vibes was one for the ages as the packed venue delivered a truly memorable Mello Vibes.
