The Buffalo Bills have decided to part ways with head coach Sean McDermott following a crushing playoff defeat against the Denver Broncos.
McDermott, 51, spent nine seasons at the helm of the Bills. During his tenure, he led star quarterback Josh Allen and the team to five AFC East titles, but a Super Bowl appearance remained just out of reach.
The heartbreak came this past weekend when Allen had a shot to seal the game in overtime. A costly fourth turnover allowed the Broncos to kick a field goal, handing Buffalo a narrow 33-30 loss.
McDermott becomes the eighth NFL head coach to leave their post this month. Interestingly, Buffalo holds a unique, if frustrating, record: seven straight seasons with a playoff win but no Super Bowl appearance.
Looking ahead, the NFL’s championship stage heats up next Sunday. The LA Rams will face off against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship, while the New England Patriots travel to take on the Broncos in the AFC equivalent. The victors of these clashes will meet at Super Bowl 60 on Sunday, February 8, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
