Cricket West Indies (CWI) has held talks with Her Excellency Jiang Wei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda, as the organisation looks to advance plans for a major new High Performance Centre at Coolidge Cricket Ground.

The proposed facility would become CWI’s administrative headquarters while also serving as a modern training hub for players, coaches and support staff, with space dedicated to sports science, education and wider cricket operations.

Discussions also explored possible Chinese involvement in the project, including construction support, supply of equipment and materials, and even future use of the campus to help develop cricket in China.

CWI leaders say the project forms part of a wider push to modernise cricket infrastructure across the region and strengthen international ties around the sport.

CWI Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring described the talks as an important step in moving the long term plan forward.

Ambassador Jiang Wei welcomed the discussions, noting previous Chinese involvement in sports development in Antigua and Barbuda, including the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
