The rap battle ramped up several octaves as Drake dropped ‘Family Matters’ late Friday night (May 3) only for Kendrick to follow up with ‘Meet the Grahams’ shortly after, causing a frenzy in the hip-hop community.

Family Matters‘ vs ‘Meet the Grahams

It is an exciting time to be a hip-hop fan, because not only is this the battle of the decade, but fans do not have to wait months for their favourite artistes to drop their rebuttal.

It was just Friday afternoon that Kendrick Lamar dropped ‘6:16 in LA’, a follow-up to ‘Euphoria’, both aimed at Drake.

Both tracks came after Drake’s own back-to-backs with ‘Push Ups’ and ‘Taylor Made’.

Fans did not even get the night to sit and digest ‘6:16 in LA‘ before Drake released ‘Family Matters‘— a track where Drake attempts to dismantle Lamar’s credibility as a rapper, a father, a husband, a black-rights activist and a person.

With lyrics like: “Out here beggin’ for attention, ni**a, say please. Always rappin’ like you ’bout to get the slaves freed. You just actin’ like an activist, it’s make-believe”

And, “I been with Black and white and everything that’s in between. You the Black messiah wifin’ up a mixed queen. And hit vanilla cream to help out with your self-esteem…”

Drake, in his battle-ready form suggests that Kendrick Lamar’s son with this long-time partner may not be his,

“Your baby mama captions always screamin’, “Save me”
You did her dirty all her life, you tryna make peace
I heard that one of them little kids might be Dave Free…”

Drake came for the jugular, but then Kendrick dropped a few hours later. ‘Meet the Grahams’ is a psychological attack on Drake’s entire family as Lamar pens personalised open letters to Drake, his mother, father, son—and daughter?

“Dear Adonis, I’m sorry that that man is your father, let me be honestIt takes a man to be a man, your dad is not responsive. I look at him and wish your grandpa woulda wore a condom…”

“Dear Sandra, Your son got some habits, I hope you don’t undermine them, Especially with all the girls that’s hurt inside this climate. You a woman, so you know how it feels to be in alignment…”

“Dear Dennis, you gave birth to a master manipulator. Even usin’ you to prove who he is is a huge favorI think you should ask for more paper, and more paper. And more, uh, more paper”

And it does not get any less detailed as Kendrick goes even deeper into his dislike of Drake. With claims that Drake is a pervert, narcissist, and misogynist and that he takes Ozempic to lose weight.

Furthermore, allegations that Drake is hiding a daughter and maybe other children is reminiscent of the Drake Vs Pusha T rap beef where Pusha told the world Drake was hiding a son (who turned out to be Adonis). Many are assuming Lamar has outed Drake’s second secret child in ‘Meet the Grahams’.

Additionally, Lamar drops another bombshell on Drake as he closes out the track with “…this a long life battle with yourself”, which has got to be the most poignant ending to a recent diss record.

Now, what will Drake say?
