Today marks a special day for reggae/dancehall artiste Capleton, the Inna Her Heart singer is celebrating his 56th birthday today!
The entertainer who is also known as The Fireman/ King Shango was born Clifton George Bailey III on April 13, 1967, in Islington in St Mary.
As a youth, the entertainer earned the nickname Capleton from relatives and friends who were so fascinated by his sharp reasoning skills that they named him after St Mary’s most esteemed lawyer.
Growing up Capleton enjoyed travelling around with sound systems. As a teenager, he’d sneaked out of his home to catch local dancehall acts and sessions in and around his community.

He eventually left St Mary for Kingston at the age of 18 to work on his career as a dancehall deejay.
The artiste got his big break and international exposure in 1989 when Stewart Brown, owner of a Toronto-based sound called African Star, gave the untested artiste his first break, flying him to Canada for a stage show alongside dancehall artistes Ninjaman and Flourgon.
In 1992 Capleton recorded Alms House, the song which would cement him in the dancehall arena.
The tune became a big hit in the dancehall and was quickly followed with Music is a Mission and the massive hit Tour.

But by 1993, the artiste was voicing more conscious tunes, such as Prophet and Cold Blooded Murderer.
In 2000, the artiste held the first staging of his annual show ‘A St Mary Mi Come From’. The event has become a household name and has raised funds for several charities since it was first staging including local schools and hospitals.
