On January 17, 2026, the US State Department decreased Jamaica’s travel advisory to Level 2, which means that travellers must exercise increased caution due to crime, health and natural disaster risks.

While the advisory acknowledged that Jamaica continues to recover from Hurricane Melissa, it cited crime and health concerns. The advisory further stated that basic and specialised medical care may not be available in many parts of Jamaica, as health care facilities in western Jamaica were badly damaged by the hurricane. Slower emergency service response times and less availability of care for illness or injury were also cited.
