The City of Memphis on Wednesday (December 15), executed its plan to honour late rapper, Young Dolph, with a street naming ceremony that featured touching words from his longtime partner, Mia Jayne.

Accompanying the late rapper’s partner were their children, seven-year-old Tre Tre Thornton and five-year-old Aria Ella Thornton.

Mia Jayne, who is referred to as MJ, eulogised the late rapper sharing that he served as a good role model and father figure to their children.

The distraught mother shared that she wanted the rapper’s death to serve as a reminder that Black men deserve to live, grow old and care for their families, hoping the street will serve as symbol for this message. She also highlighted that although a rapper, Dolph was a kind and gentle person.

The unveiling of Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr. Avenue also saw the likes of local politians, Councilwoman Martavius Jones and Councilman JB Smiley Jr.

MJ was also hopeful that the community would see a decline in violence. Rapper Young Dolph passed in act of violence. He was shot and killed in South Memphis, Tennessee on November 17 in broad daylight. He was murdered from a drive while purchasing cookies at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies bakery.

A suspect is yet to be apprehended for the death of the 36-year-old.
