The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO), has announced upcoming soca artiste, songwriter and producer Mical Williams, popularly known as Mical Teja, as the winner of its annual Road Monarch competition.
Teja’s hit track ‘DNA‘, which he also co-written and co-produced with Tano has proven to have captured the spirit of carnival the most for this year with 341 plays along the judging points during Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago. Last year’s winner Ian ‘Bunji Garlin’ Alvarez placed second with his hit song ‘Carnival Contract; and Patrice Roberts’ track ‘Anxiety‘ placed third.
With ‘DNA‘, the artiste has secured first-place finishes in the Young Kings Calypso Monarch 2024 competition and now the Road March 2024 competition. The track was also chosen by BPRenegades for their first-place finish at the Panorama 2024 competition.

Commenting on his achievements for the 2024 Carnival season, the young soca artiste left a message on his X, formerly known as Twitter page, it reads:
“I’m beyond grateful for the support from everyone, the music isn’t mines anymore, ITS OURS. Love allyuh (all of you), I will cherish this moment for a lifetime.”
Although this is his first Road March title, the artiste is no stranger to creating mega soca hits, as a songwriter, producer and artiste. In 2016, when the artiste was just 20, he was one of the writers for ‘Work Out‘, by Kes and Nailah Blackman. Since the 2022 Carnival season, Teja has produced at least one major hit song. For the 2022 season, he released ‘Dingolay‘, in 2023, he released ‘Hall of Fame‘ and in 2024 he won the Road March title with ‘DNA‘ all of which he also co-wrote and produced.

TUCO, in their announcement also said, “Throughout the competition, seven judging points were established, reflecting the widespread engagement and enthusiasm for soca and calypso music across the nation.
Mical Teja has rightfully earned the prestigious title of Road Monarch 2024, along with the grand prize of TT$250,000.00.”
