Naomi Osaka has advanced to the quarter finals of the Washington Open after Ashlyn Krueger retired from their match due to an ankle injury.
The third seed was leading 6-3, 3-1 when the contest came to an early end.
The victory continues Osaka’s strong return to form after her run to the Wimbledon quarter finals. She will now face Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto in her third consecutive quarter final appearance.
