Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz ended their Concacaf W Qualifiers campaign unbeaten at the top of Group B after defeating Guyana 2-0 on Saturday night at the National Stadium.
It didn’t take long for Jamaica to get going. Just eight minutes in, captain Khadija Shaw rose above the defence to guide home a well-placed corner from Deneisha Blackwood, setting the tone for what quickly became a one-sided match.
From there, it was all Jamaica. The Reggae Girlz controlled possession, dictated the pace, and kept Guyana pinned deep in their own half for most of the match. By halftime, they had already created a flurry of chances but had only one goal to show for it, thanks in large part to Guyana’s goalkeeper Arden La-Rose.
Jamaica’s pressure never eased after the break. Chance after chance came and went, with shots striking the post, drifting wide, or being denied at the last moment. Despite their control, the second goal proved elusive for much of the night.
It finally arrived in the 88th minute. Khadija Shaw turned provider, slipping a pass to substitute Vyan Sampson, who sent in a well-placed ball for fellow substitute Shania Hayles to head home and put the result beyond doubt.
Even in stoppage time, Jamaica pushed for more, nearly adding a third, but the final whistle blew with the scoreline at 2-0.
The victory secured a perfect four wins from four matches and 12 points for Jamaica, with Nicaragua finishing second on nine points and Guyana third with six while Antigua and Barbuda edged Dominica for fourth place.
With qualifiers complete, the Reggae Girlz now turn their attention to the Concacaf W Championship in November, where places at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will be on the line.
