The Jamaica Scorpions showed no mercy on day one of their West Indies Championship clash with the Barbados Pride, closing on a strong 358 for four on Sunday.

At the heart of the innings was Kirk McKenzie Jr, who delivered back-to-back centuries on home soil, continuing his rich run of form. After choosing to bat first, Campbell and McKenzie built a solid start, reaching 128 without loss by lunch.

Their partnership grew into a double-century stand. Campbell seemed destined for a three-figure score, blasting his way to 96, but a moment of overconfidence proved costly. Attempting another big hit to bring up his century, he mistimed the shot and was caught in the deep, ending a fine knock that included 12 fours and two sixes.

Rain briefly halted play with Jamaica at 242 for two, but once action resumed, McKenzie picked up where he left off. He went on to complete a well-crafted century, striking 14 boundaries and a six before eventually falling for 114.

With a solid foundation in place, the Scorpions pushed forward. Javelle Glenn added quick runs with an aggressive 65, taking the attack to the bowlers, while Brad Barnes played a steady supporting role.

The pair added valuable runs before Glenn was dismissed, but by then Jamaica had tightened its grip on the match. Barnes remained unbeaten on 34 at stumps, alongside Romaine Morris, as the Scorpions ended the day firmly in control.

For Barbados, Johann Layne picked up two wickets, but the bowlers struggled to find consistent breakthroughs against the Jamaican team.
