Police Commissioner, Dr Kevin Blake, is coming down hard on the unprofessional behaviour by officers, which he is adamant is undermining recent progress in reducing violent crime, including murders.
In his latest weekly column in Force Orders, Dr Blake stressed that while the police force is recording “very encouraging results” in its crime reduction efforts, incidents captured on social media point to conduct that is “cause for grave concern”.
“I want to draw your attention to a troubling and related matter… some videos of unprofessional conduct of a few of our members are surfacing and are cause for grave concern,” Commissioner Blake wrote.
In responding to the Commissioner’s rebuke, Donnahue Rowe posted on the Police Force’s Facebook page, “In light of the fact that video recordings have given rise to this public admission underscores the importance of urgently establishing a proper body and mobile audio/video recording program for members of the security services. Electronic recordings are impartial and therefore stand to benefit members of the security forces and members of the public.”
Another commentator, Jonathan Bailey, wrote, “Long overdue, great to see some level of responsibility. Hopefully, there can be measures to prevent and lessen these behaviours so the positive results can continue.
