American video live-streaming service Twitch unveiled a redesign of its mobile app into a more TikTokesque format aimed to enhance the user experience on Monday (July 29).

While the majority of Twitch viewers use their desktop, close to 40 per cent of users use mobile exclusively.

The trend is even more pronounced among new users, with almost three-quarters of first-time viewers starting on mobile.

Upon opening the redesigned app, users are greeted with a feed of live streams tailored to their preferences. This personalised feed allows for quick previews of various streams, much like TikTok’s swipe functionality.

Simply tapping on a stream enables users to join and participate in live chats. For those with limited time, the Clips feed offers a quick catch-up on the latest highlights.

A new feature in the upper left corner now reveals a drawer of followed channels which leads directly to the channel page.

In addition to the redesign, Twitch introduced several user-friendly features, including control over autoplay, default muted feed on open, a mute button directly on the feed, and picture-in-picture functionality.

Twitch says upcoming updates will include vertical video viewing and the addition of category and collection filters. Users are encouraged to provide ongoing feedback to help shape future enhancements.

The updated Twitch mobile app is available for download on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.
