Tottenham Hotspurs have secured a fourth-round berth in the Emirates FC Cup after a brilliant spell of dominance over Non-League Division One team Marine AFC on Sunday (January 10).

The 5-0 demolition, sparked by Carlos Vinícius, saw an underprepared Marine play at home to the mercy of the Jose Mourinho-managed side.

Vinícius sprung into action very early, but his relentless attacks only bore fruit in the 24th minute; Dele Ali picked out the Brazilian who showed great composure to take it round the keeper and smash home the opener.

The first goal marked the proverbial dam breaking as goals appeared in quick succession.

Two goals in two minutes as Carlos blasted in a second in the 30th from close range before fellow Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Moura, fired in a free-kick to make it 3-0 in the 32nd.

With a third goal and Tottenham’s fourth in the 37th, Vinícius used another 13 minutes to cement a hat-trick as the cruising Hotspurs went into the break.

At 16 years and 163 days old, Alfie Devine took to the pitch as the youngest-ever player for Tottenham and went on his way to be the youngest-ever goalscorer for the high-flying outfit with a brilliant strike to make it 5-0 in the 60th.

The outcome put a smile on the face of Mourinho, who had this to say of the match results: “I think it means a lot. As a Tottenham coach, I’m very happy with the players’ attitude. Results [were] done at half-time and everything is fine.”

The Hotspurs, fourth in the English Premier League (EPL) standings, resume their campaign away to Aston Villa on Wednesday, before taking on West Brom at home next Sunday.
