French Open Champion Alexander Zverev is playing well at this year’s Wimbledon and his improvement is evident to see.

Today he played the American Taylor Fritz, a man who has beaten him the last seven times they have played against each other .

It was going to be a challenge for the German who is coached by his father.

Alexander Zverev’s serve is a weapon and he unleashed it today. Fritz stood in to cut off the angle when Zverev served wide, but it did him no good.

The French Open champion was picking his spots and rarely missed. He also used the slice effectively, keeping the ball low and forcing Fritz to move forward and create space.

Fritz needed a time out to attend to a knee problem and then battled valiantly, but it always looked like the day belonged to Zverev, who won in under two hours, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Zverev now faces the Brit qualifier  Arthur Fery in the semi-final, who he is expected to easily defeat and make his second Grand Slam final this year. The crowd will be behind Fery, more so with England doing well in the World Cup. It would be a big upset if he gets past Zverev.

Currently ranked World No.3, holding 7,190 points, Zverev may regain the No.2 spot if he wins Wimbledon this year. He is playing well and poses a threat to either Novak Djokovic or Yannick Sinner.

Alexander Zverev will be making his first appearance at a Wimbledon semi-final. He is the fifth active man to reach the semi-finals of all Grand Slam tournaments.

“I hope to play two more matches here. But for now, I’m extremely happy to be in the semi-final, especially against Taylor, whom I haven’t beaten in more than two years. He’s been beating me for two years straight.

“ I played a fantastic match and I’m very happy to be in the semi-finals.”
