British tennis star Emma Raducanu says she finally feels free after a frightening stalking incident earlier this year.
The 2021 US Open champion was left shaken and tearful in February when a man, who had followed her to four tournaments in a row, appeared in the stands during a match in Dubai. The previous day, he had approached her in a coffee shop with a letter and a request for a photo. Dubai police removed him and later issued a restraining order.
Raducanu says she has moved on from the incident, though she admits she can still feel uneasy when seeing printed images of herself.
The 21 year old rose to global fame with her US Open victory at just 18. She has faced stalking before, with another man receiving a five year restraining order in 2022 after walking 23 miles to reach her home.
After the Dubai scare, Raducanu increased her security at tournaments and praised organizers for the protection they provided. By June, she reported feeling safer at events, though she still remains cautious when out in public.
