The 2026 West Indies Championship match between the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force was abandoned as a draw on April 21, 2026, after a dangerous pitch led to the hospitalisation of Jeremiah Louis.
During the first session of Day 3 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Louis was struck on the side of the head by a delivery from fast bowler Jayden Seales that reared up sharply from a good length.
Louis collapsed in frustration before being stretchered off and taken to the hospital by ambulance to be evaluated for a possible concussion. Cricket West Indies (CWI) later confirmed he is in stable condition. The umpires halted play after consulting with the match referee and curator. It was determined the pitch could not be safely repaired, and continuing would pose a serious risk to player safety. The match was declared a draw, with points awarded based on progress up to the point of abandonment.
Before play was halted, Seales had been in outstanding form, claiming all seven wickets to fall as the Leeward Islands struggled to 140 for seven. CWI has stated that “all necessary resources” will be used to ensure the surface is safe for the Championship Final, which is scheduled to be held at the same venue from May 17–20, 2026.
